Light House and Pálás Celebrate Sulivan Bluth Studios

In 1979, animator Don Bluth, along with 86 artist and technician colleagues made a mass exodus from Disney in California and eventually upped sticks to Ireland, where they opened an animation studio of their own. Sullivan Bluth Studios was based in Dublin and recruited heavily from Ireland, helping to set up an animation course at Ballyfermot College and bringing about an expansion in the Irish animation sector. By 1990, Ireland's animation industry employed around 530 people, including Murakami-Wolf Dublin (producer of the 90’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon), and another studio of American origins, Emerald City. Several former Sullivan Bluth employees continue to work in Irish animation at very successful Irish-owned studios including Cartoon Saloon, Brown Bag Films, and Monster Animation.

This November, Light House and Pálás present Sunday matinees of Don Bluth’s directorial debut The Secret of Nimh, as well as the Sullivan Bluth produced films The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven. You can even bring your canine companions to the dog-friendly screening of All Dogs Go to Heaven in Pálás on November 26th!
